Gearbox Lubrication

Other than periodic lubrication, no routine operational maintenance to the gear drive is needed. It is recommended, however, that you inspect the gear drive regularly for lubricant leaks, abnormal noise, vibration, etc.

A breather plug is installed on top of the gear drive to allow pressures inside and outside the gear case to equalize. Do not paint over this plug or otherwise obstruct its function.

Most gear drives have been filled with lubricant at the factory. Some of the large gearboxes are shipped dry. Before starting the unit, check the oil level to make sure oil is at the proper level.
Note: running the gearbox with no oil will damage the gearbox. If it is necessary to add oil to your gearbox, the following chart lists suitable synthetic oils that can be used.
